Someone gave me an old 98 Mauser a while back. It has no markings on it except for serial #4924 on the bolt and the receiver. The guy that gave it to me said that it was Polish from WW1. The bore was a little rough, so I found an 8mm barrel (German, I believe, although it has no markings of any kind.) that had a good bore.
The same on a Mauser 1903 in the original caliber of 7.65x53mm. The barrel box assembly must be disassembled to access these markings.
