It would handle better with a stock! Cheaper to buy a 500 and have the barrel cut than to start with a shockwave. I have had zero issues with either 2-3/4” or 1-3/4” using the birds head grip. The recoil is negligible, and the Crimson Trace laser saddle makes aiming accurately a snap from any position. And it fits in a backpack.
No they are not. Should be the same. But longer 500/590s don't necessarily have the longer slide action tube. There no rhyme or reason at Mossberg for that shit. I make aftermarket forends for them and even Mossberg has told me there is no telling after so many years. Lol.

The new Mossberg 590 Shockwave and Remington Tac 14 both fall into this firearms category. These are technically 12 gauge, pump action firearms with 14 inch barrels.
