They’ve been found in the Netherlands, in Nigeria, and in east China, all dating anywhere from 8,000 to 10,000 years old. Many of the earliest canoes were “dugout” canoes made from hollowing out enormous logs. I love my Osprey. We bought this canoe used 3 years ago in very good shape. We have mostly taken it on the mid-Willamette River, which is Class 1+. We have even taken it overnight on the Willamette. The boat is very lightweight, maybe 45-50 lbs., which is great for us "old folks". We have had 3 adults in it, which seems to make it more stable. Great for tandem day-tripping or the solo paddler with a high skill level, this rugged canoe is at home on calm waters but can run rivers with the best of them, even when loaded down with gear.
